Italy is an incredibly family friendly country. There are so many ways in which a holiday in Italy is easy with children in tow.

For a start, the Italians love children and you’ll find that they are welcomed at restaurants (even if the restaurant isn’t the most practical in terms of offering high chairs). Your waiter may swiftly become your children’s favourite entertainer! Either that, or the Italian nonna sitting at the adjacent table will! Moreover, most children will happily eat pizza and pasta so it’s easy to keep their stomachs full. And you can always go off-menu -restaurants will usually create a basic bowl of pasta with a tomato sauce for little ones. Not to mention the gelato…

Our family holiday in Lake Maggiore in the Italian Lakes this summer was simply magical. We fell head over heels in love with the region and became pros at jumping on and off boats to explore lakeside towns and local markets.

Another reason for opting for a family friendly holiday to Italy is that travelling around Italy with children is always so easy. And it’s good value too! Take train journeys in Italy. Children enjoy greatly reduced fares on trains:

  • Children under 4 travel free on Italian trains
  • Children under 12 get child rates on regional trains
  • Children under 15 get child rates on national trains

And there is such an incredible wealth of things to see and do in Italy for children too. Perhaps you and your family want to spend time on the beach. Or maybe your family prefers a more action-packed itinerary visiting some of Italy’s most famous historic attractions. (After all, what child won’t get excited by a tower that leans!) Whatever your preference, Italy is like one gigantic playground just waiting to be explored.

Top tips for a family friendly holiday to Italy

However, that said, we recognise that planning holidays with children (especially younger ones) can still be stressful for some. At Bookings For You, we don’t think it needs to be. We’re here to help you plan the perfect family friendly holiday to Italy.

One of the easiest ways we think you can take the stress out of your stay is by opting for a villa in Italy. For a start, opting for self catering will often be a much more economical choice for families. However, you can’t underestimate the freedom that a self catering villa in Italy offers. You’re not restricted by hotel rules. You can enjoy breakfast whenever you want, you don’t need to worry about the noise levels around the pool. Plus, the kids can enjoy an afternoon nap indoors whilst you still get to lie by the pool!

Another way to ensure your holiday to Italy is family friendly is by planning ahead. A bit of time working out what you want to do in advance will save you so much stress when you’re there. This way you can book tickets to attractions in advance to avoid queuing. After all, what parent enjoys trying to keep a young child entertained in a queue?!! Plus, this will give children some structure to their trip. Most children respond well to structure – they’re used to it at school. By providing it on holiday, they’ll stay happier… and therefore, so will you!
