Weather in Puglia

Inspiration, Puglia

The weather in Puglia makes it a great area of Italy to visit in any season. With an average of just over 300 sunny days to enjoy each year, it can feel like the sun is always shining in Puglia. Whatever time of year you choose to visit this stunning area of southern Italy, we have no doubt that you will fall in love with the magical white-washed towns and breathtakingly beautiful beaches. However, knowing what to expect of the weather during your trip can be very useful when planning and deciding which time of year to make your trip to Puglia.

Summer Weather in Puglia

As you would expect, July and August are the hottest months in Puglia. Temperatures during the summer often reach beyond 30 degrees centigrade. Certainly, at this time of year, some of the main towns and cities can get almost stiflingly hot. It’s not unusual to see temperatures over 35 degrees. However even at this time of year, it does tend to stay cooler on the coast. And the Puglia’s majestic coast is certainly a great place to be in the height of the Summer. The sea warms up to the mid twenties, making a dip in the crystalline water almost irresistible.

Don’t worry though, even if you’re inland, at Bookings For You we make sure that all of our Puglia villas have air conditioning to ensure you are nice and cool at night. And what’s more, all of our villas also have the benefits of enjoying pool access so you can always take a dip to cool off! Summer is also the time when Puglia often experiences a welcome visit from the Tramontana and Sirocco winds. The former brings more refreshment coming form the north whereas the latter is warm air moving up from the Sahara region. Either way, on a very hot day everyone enjoys a breeze!

Spring and Autumn Weather in Puglia

If you’re not someone who enjoys the heat, then you might want to consider travelling across May and June or September and October, rather than the height of the Summer. Although these ‘cooler’ months can still be very hot. Puglia’s Summer season is long and dry and lasts from the end of May to the end of September.  However, by choosing to travel in the shoulder season, these months do arguably offer the most pleasant temperatures for sightseeing combined with some lovely sunshine to top up that tan!

Spring and Autumn can be a lovely time to visit. The Spring comes early and is generally warm and sunny, with temperatures often climbing to the low twenties by the end of April. Later in the year, temperatures often hover around 25 degrees well into the Autumn months. These days, it’s not unknown for temperatures to stay in the low twenties until December and it’s usually possible to swim in the sea quite comfortably as late as October or event into the beginning of November.

Winter Weather in Puglia

Winter is also a great time to visit Puglia. And while winter is the time of year that the region sees most rainfall, daytimes tend to be mild with temperatures only dropping at night. November and December are the months that see most amount of rain. In fact the mild weather in Puglia during the winter makes it a lovely place to enjoy a break over Christmas or new year. Italians celebrate Christmas in style and it is at this time of year that you will get to try some of the finest Italian celebration foods, as families gather for festivities. All the major towns host Christmas markets and there are plenty of steaming hot cups of Italian hot chocolate on offer to keep you warm should the temperatures begin to drop.
