How to get around Ostuni while on a luxury holiday
Ostuni does have a train station, but it is situated 3 km from the town, at the bottom of the hill. Walking from here to the historic is strongly discouraged due to safety risks – the route is a fast road with minimal pavements. Instead, you can catch the shuttle bus from the station to the centre. The journey takes approximately 15 minutes. Or hire one of the taxis that are usually waiting outside the station.
Once in Ostuni, it is easy to explore on foot. In fact, in much of the town, it’s the only way to explore. Ostuni is largely pedestrianised and is a maze of narrow streets, steep staircases and old, uneven stone pathways.
However, one alternative and fun way to get around Ostuni is to hire an open-air three-wheeled rickshaw – an Ape Calessino – which offer guided sightseeing tours as well as short rides around the lower slopes and perimeter of Ostuni’s historic centre.
