Alberobello does have a train station – Stazione di Alberobello – operated by Ferrovie del Sud Est (FSE). It is situated close to the town centre, approximately 10 minutes on foot to the main trulli zones.

Or, if coming by car, there are plenty of conveniently located car parks on the edge of Alberobello’s historic zones.

Once in town, it is easy to explore on foot during your luxury holiday. The town is compact and highly walkable. It only takes about 20 minutes to walk from one side of the town to the other. Alberobello’s main attractions – the trulli of Rione Monti and Aia Piccola – are largely pedestrianised, allowing you to walk around without having to worry about traffic.

Just be aware that Alberobello is built on hills, so expect sloped, cobblestone streets and staircases.

Things to do on a luxury holiday in Alberobello

We recommend spending a couple of hours walking the streets of Alberobello during your luxury holiday. Head up the main street in the Rione Monti quarter before exploring the quieter Aia Piccola. Keep an eye out for the Casa d’Amore, the first trullo to be built using mortar in 1797, as well as the Trullo Siamese, so-called because it has two entrances into the one building. Also of note is the Church of Sant’ Antonio, the only trullo church anywhere in the world.

To better understand the history of the trulli in Alberobello, visit the Trullo Sovrano. This is the largest trullo in Alberobello and is home to a small museum. The second museum in town worth visiting is the larger Museo del Territorio, home to a number of exhibits explaining how people used to live. If you have time, also head to the Museo dell’ Olio where you can learn about the production of olive oil in the area.

For the best unobstructed views of the conical-shaped stone roofs of the trulli, we recommend the viewing platform adjacent to the Chiesa di Santa Lucia. However, there are some other great views to be enjoyed on the rooftop terraces of souvenir shops and cafes in the Rione Monti area and in the quieter residential zone of the Riona Aia Piccola. The side streets of the Via Monte Nero and Vico Francesco Lippolis are also particularly atmospheric for close-up images.
