Once in Tuscany, car hire is certainly recommended if you are to make the most of your stay.
Another option to get around is by train. The main station in Tuscany is at Santa Maria Novella in Florence and certainly, if you’re based near the city, it’s certainly extremely easy to get from Florence out to the other towns and cities. Train times can be found at www.trenitalia.it.
About 10 bus companies serve the Tuscany region. These include SITA, Lazzi, CAP, COPIT and Florentia Bus.
Taxis can prove very difficult to find so definitely book one in advance if you need to head somewhere.
