Maccagno is a popular lakeside town boasting a number of restaurants, bars and cafes all within walking distance of this Italian Lakes wheelchair adapted apartment. The nearest restaurant is on site whilst the second closest is just a few metres in the other direction. There is also a helpful tourist information office within the town if you need any information about what to see and do in the area. A note from Jo
We are thrilled to be able to offer our guests the chance to stay in this Italian Lakes wheelchair adapted apartment. The bathroom is fully adapted for wheelchair users and those with disabilities with hand rails and walk in shower. A shower chair can be provided if required. Doorways are wide and there is plenty of room in the property to easily manoeuvre a wheelchair. The communal areas within the resort have ramps in place whenever stairs.
We had a great stay in this very practical, clean appartment with lake view. We chose this appartment because it was indicated as accessible for wheelchair users. The pictures give a good idea of what you can expect. You also get a very accessible parking space under the appartment (to be opened with a key. Not so handy if you travel alone as a wheelchair user but fortunately i travellled with my partner.) You can also use the garage as an entrance to avoid a climb. There was a lot of space in the garage to get next or behind the vehicle with the wheelchair. It may seem like a detail but wheelchair users know to appreciate this.
From the terrace you have a view on the lake. And it is a great place to have your breakfast, lunch or dinner. There are two small curbs to overcome. We read about them in another review about this place so we brought a mobile ramp. For people who come by plane, this is complicated and i suggest the owner to provide a ramp to the terrace.
Another great thing is the swimming pool. On one side the curb or water level of the swimming pool is higher than the walking level. So you can easily transfer from your chair onto the curb. There is no lift to get in the water. The very helpfull staff helped me with the curb at the entrance of the pool. There was a platform lift from streetlevel to the swimming pool but because there was no access for the general public to the pool at the moment of my stay (Corona) that lift was out of order.
Not all public transport across the lake by boat is accessible but most boats are. Look for the most recent shedules wIth information at the stations. You may follow the path along the lake to the station. A very nice walking path and very doable by wheelchair. The excellent restaurant half way has stunning views. Unfortunately no accessible toilet. But then, your perfect accessible appartment is nearby.
We will come again.
