The Space

Villa Pia was completely renovated in 2023 and offers guests a high standard of accommodation.

Inside, there is a spacious, open-plan living, dining and kitchen area. The kitchen is well equipped with induction hob, oven, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, kettle and toaster. A dining table seats 4 and there is a sofa, perfect days for relaxing in front of the TV. Book shelves house a vast collection of books on the nature, architecture, geology and archaeology of Abruzzo. A sofa bed allows the property to sleep up to 7 guests in total. There are also 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in the apartment. Both bathrooms have modern showers. The bedrooms are both a good size. The first is furnished with a large double bed whilst the second has both a double and single bed. The apartment is fully air conditioned throughout.

Outside, there is a charming private terrace overlooking the main square in Atessa. This is furnished with an outdoor table and chairs. It's the perfect spot for a bite to eat in the morning or for an aperitivo in the early evening.

For those travelling by bike or motorcycle, there is a private 17 metre square garage located adjacent to the property. This is a superb location for motorcyclists with an abundance of great routes to discover along the winding scenic roads of this corner of Abruzzo. Choose to head from the hills to the beautiful Trabocchi Coast or instead, head inland to the mountains of the Alto Sangro near the border between Abruzzo and Molise. Here you will find the magnificent Abetina di Rosello nature reserve and the Majella National Park.

Local Area

Villa Pia is located in the heart of the historic Medieval centre of Atessa in Abruzzo. This is a hilltop town, rich in history. It boasts a number of architectural gems, not least the Church of San Leucio, which houses the famous 'dragon's rib'. Some of the museums we recommend our guests visit in Atessa include the Nativity Scene Museum (Museo del Presepe), the Aligi Sassu Museum and the Museum of Ancient Crafts (Museo degli Antichi Mestieri).

Given the location of the apartment, there are also a number of great restaurants, pizzerias, cafes and shops within easy walking distance.

Atessa is situated a 20-minute drive from the Costa dei Trabocchi. Here, ancient fishing structures bear testament to the long-standing traditions of the region. Many have now been converted into fabulous seafood restaurants. Also 20 minutes away is the beautiful Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere, whilst half an hour to the west is the Maiella National Park. This is a stunning natural setting where men have built hermitages within the rocks. Of note is San Bartolomeo in Legio (Roccamorice) which is set into the rock and accessed through a tunnel carved into the mountain. However, equally spectacular are the Monastery of San Martino in Valle and the Hermitage of Sant'Onofrio di Serramonacesca.

Also, don't miss the opportunity to climb to Passo Lanciano and Cima del Blockhaus at 2,145 metres above sea level, or to go to Campo di Giove and Passo San Leonardo, famous ski resorts located on the northeastern slopes of the Majella massif.

The nearest airport is in Pescara (65 km away). This has direct connections to London, Frankfurt, Krakow, Brussels, Tirana, Milan, Turin, and Catania.
