Great activities for family holidays in the Italian Lakes

If you’re planning a family holiday in the Italian Lakes, then it’s worth planning ahead so that you make sure you fit in all the activities you and your children would like to enjoy. The Italian Lakes is probably not the destination that immediately springs to mind when considering the best family holiday destinations, but a stay on Lake Maggiore in particular offers a fun packed holiday for children of all ages.

A recent teenage guest at one of the villas available through Bookings For You has kindly written about two of her favourite days out whilst staying at Sopra il Lago 4, a 3 bedroom apartment on Lake Maggiore. She describes 2 fantastic days out, one at the lido in Locarno and the other at the Alprose Swiss chocolate factory which lies on the road that takes you between Lake Maggiore and Lake Como.

Describing her day to the chocolate factory, Rebecca writes….

A great day out is visiting the Swiss Alprose chocolate factory. I personally love it, it is very interesting as you get a tour around where the chocolate is made and all the machinery. I love chocolate and I was really looking forward to visiting. I really recommend it. As you walk in there is a big chocolate fountain which you can dip bread sticks in, it’s really nice. Then there is some information about chocolate and how it is traditionally made and enjoyed. Then the best bit is the actual factory, you can smell the sweet smell of chocolate and everything is an arms length away. Then you can go to the shop where there are free samples, and there are all types of chocolate to choose from. Then outside there is the famous red and white spotty cow statues where you can get your photograph taken if you want.

If you’re needing to burn off some of those calories you piled on eating all the free chocolate, then why not follow Rebecca’s advice and go swimming for the day? The great thing about Lake Maggiore is that, whatever time of year, even during the Winter when it’s too cold to enjoy a swim in the beautiful lake, there are some great indoor pools to enjoy. The lido in Locarno opened in 2009 and offers 4 outdoor pools (one heated so in use all year round) and 3 indoor pools. There are also watersides, diving boards and inflatables galore to play with in the water!

Rebecca writes….

My family and I decided to go out of Italy and have a day trip to Switzerland. We went to a state of the art swimming pool called the Lido which is in Locarno. My dad and brother went in the indoor and outdoor pool, and my mum and I had a coffee and hot chocolate at the side. My first impressions of the building were very good and they continued all the way through. The building is made of glass and is very open and has plenty of space. The pool looked really good and it was very big too, you swam under a bridge to enter the outdoor area of the pool which was heated and had a great view of the mountains. In February it was lovely because you could see the snow on the hills and the whole atmosphere was very nice! The cafe area was very relaxing and entertaining as you could see through to the pool area. The service was great and they had a good choice of food and drink. Overall a great day out and very fun.
