As with so many regions of Italy, the people of Le Marche are passonate about their food. Probably the most famous of the area’s regional specialities is the famous truffle. However, their regional cuisine also includes it’s mountain cheeses, hams and salamis, olives and varities of fish soups.

This historical town is one of the main cultural centres in the region, it is just 30 minutes away from Ancona and the famous white-sand beaches in Monte Conero and since 2015 it is the indisputable food capital of Le Marche.
Jesi offers its visitors a perfect combination of history, art and culture with its imposing palaces and important museums. During a tour of the city you can’t miss a visit to the Palazzo della Signoria, with its historical library Biblioteca Planettiana, and Palazzo Pianetti, which hosts the Pinacoteca Civica with famous works from painter Lorenzo Lotto, as well as a walk along the city walls, some of the most well-preserved city walls in the region. Piazza Federico II is situated in the heart of the city and is an important historical site since the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire Frederick II was born here on 26th December 1194. However, the Emperor is not the only famous son of Jesi: the city is also the hometown of the composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, recalled in the name of the Baroque theatre of the city and honoured throughout the famous opera Festival Pergolesi Spontini. But culture is not the only feature of this hilly town in Le Marche… Jesi is also renowned for sport, especially fencing with one of the most important schools in Italy, and, of course, food!
Le Marche boasts a rich culinary tradition made of simple and flavourful tastes as well internationally-renowned wines such as Lacrima di Morro d’Alba and Rosso Piceno, but if you do not have enough time to visit the entire region looking for the wide variety of traditional foodstuffs it has to offer, you can find them all in Jesi! In 2015 the organisation Food Brand Marche, which brings together most of the food producer associations, chose the XVII-century building Palazzo Balleani as its main seat.
