Casa Scala is a charming 2 bedroom cottage in Tuscany. It is set within the grounds of a 13th century castle and is nestled in the stunning Casentino Valley. The original borgo has origins that date back to 1017 however many of the houses suffered damage in an earthquake in 1916 so some of what you see today post dates that.
Casa Scala has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, an open plan living and dining area and a lovely view of the castle above. The decor is traditional but elegant. Antique furnishings and floral fabrics add charm and warmth to the space.
Both bedrooms in this cottage in Tuscany have double beds. One also has an extra single bed allowing it to sleep up to 3 people. Each bedroom has a bathroom with shower. One bathroom has a lovely antique marble washbasin and characteristic skylight too. Both bedrooms enjoy panoramic views over the surrounding countryside.
The property is mostly on one level, with just four small stairs to the bedroom area. A gate can be closed here making it ideal for families with young children.
Outside, there is a private outdoor area, furnished with table and chairs for al fresco dining. It's the perfect setting to enjoy relaxed evenings outside, under the starry skies and with the lights of the castle shining above.
This cottage in Tuscany is located just a 5 minute drive from the town of Stia. The town can also be reached on foot in approximately 20 minutes. The owners of Casa Scala also own a restaurant which is open for dinner from Wednesday to Saturday and for lunch on Sunday.
There is so much to see and do n the Casentino Valley. Some of our favourite sites include the castles of Poppi and Romena, the church of Pieve di Romena, the Camaldoli Monastery and La Verna Sanctuary. If you enjoy hiking, there are some wonderful walks in the area as well as some fantastic bike rides both in the forest and along the Arno River. And we would recommend you also take time to explore the villages of Anghiari and Bibbiena.
