Our guide to the best regions to enjoy September sun in Italy.
Finding September sun in Italy is the perfect remedy to the summer blues. Italy’s sunny days last well into September and it is one of our favourite months to enjoy a break when some of the intense heat of July and August has waned. What’s more, September in Italy is the perfect time to experience some of Italy’s world-famous cities, beaches and beauty spots when the bulk of the summer tourists have departed. These are our favourite places in Italy to soak up some September sun in Italy.
Puglia
With temperatures still well into the mid 20s, Puglia is blissful in September. Relax in peace on pristine beaches and discover Puglia’s picture postcard towns. At this time of year, they’ll be free from crowds but will still have that wonderfully warm Italian buzz. Ostuni has long been a Bookings For You must-visit city when we’re in Puglia. In September, the city’s iconic white walls still gleam in the bight sunshine as blue skies reign on in this southern Italian paradise.
Puglia’s beaches are some of the best in the world. If you’re looking for some beach days to accompany your September sun in Italy, then Puglia is the perfect choice. More affectionately known as the ‘Maldives of Italy’ due to its beautifully clean, white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters, Marina di Pescoluse is a great family friendly beach in the very south of the region. The sea is wonderfully shallow, making it ideal for children and young families. Further north, Torre Guaceto near Brindisi, is a nature reserve and protected marine area that stretches over many miles and is overlooked by a 16th century watchtower. Be sure to take your snorkel and mask to see the coral reefs and fish that swim close to the shore.
September is a wonderful time to discover Puglia’s world famous trulli of Alberobello. When the intense heat of the summer has passed you can explore this UNESCO World Heritage site at your own pace. This iconic Puglian architecture glows in the warm September sun and the stunning show of flowers which punctuate it’s famous alleys can brighten any autumn day.

September in Sicily is certainly still summer. Temperatures average 28 degrees and blue skies reign, while Italy’s largest island breathes after the bulk of its tourists leave its shores.
Sicily’s azure waters are wonderfully warm in September, making it the perfect time to enjoy the island’s beautiful beaches. Perhaps the most iconic of these is Scala dei Turchi. These are absolutely stunning white limestone cliffs, named after the Turkish and Moorish pirates who landed there. Over the years, they have been eroded by the sea and wind to form a series of steps. The striking white cliffs contrast magnificently with the fine sandy beach and turquoise seas below. There can be few places more magical to watch the September sun set.
