The snow capped peaks of the Monti Sibillini offer superb skiing territory.
At Sarnano is Sassotetto, Le Marche’s main ski resort. This is a medium sized ski resort boasting 9 pistes, 9 ski lifts (1 chair lift and 8 surface lifts) but with only 180 metres (590 feet) of vertical descent, it’s probably best suited to intermediate skiers and snowboarders rather than advanced skiiers. For snowboarders there is even a dedicated snow park. However, there is also some suitable terrain for both beginners and advanced skiers. It’s easy to hire boots, skis and snowboards and, for those preferring to watch rather than take part, there are also a couple of good restaurants. It’s certainly a great option for those looking to combine a sightseeing holiday with some outdoor pursuits.
Other ski resorts in Le Marche include Pintura (Bolognola), Frontignano (Ussita) and Monte Prata (Castel Sant’Angelo sul Nera) which lead to cross- varying length and difficulty. Even cross-country skiing in the Marches offers great slopes.
