Luxury Holiday Villas in Piedmont

We are excited to feature our collection of luxury holiday villas in Piedmont, situated right in the heart of one of Italy’s most beautiful regions. Famous for both its food and wine, Piedmont is the perfect destination for foodies. Bra is an old Roman town where the Italian Slow Food Movement was founded, whilst Alba is synonymous with its incredible truffles. Not only that, but Piedmont is also home to some incredible wines. Barolo and Barbaresco are arguably its most famous reds, whilst whites include Gavi and Arneis. Not forgetting the bubbles of Asti, of course!

Our luxury Piedmont villas also offer the chance to explore some of Piedmont’s wonderful towns, villages and cities. The regional capital, Turin, is rich in royal heritage, Baroque architecture, and artistic treasures. Nestled beneath the Alps and bordering France and Switzerland, Piedmont is Italy’s second-largest region, featuring 56 national and regional parks, expansive lakes, and vineyard-draped hills.

Best areas to stay in on a luxury holiday in Piedmont

Piedmont’s landscape is incredibly varied, with about 43% of the region mountainous, 30% hilly, and 26% plains. From royal capitals to vineyard valleys and lakeside retreats, each area offers a unique atmosphere for your holiday. Here are some of the best places to consider booking your luxury holiday villa in Piedmont.

Turin

The region’s capital is Turin, a city that was once the capital of Italy. This city has much to recommend it to visitors, not least the world’s tallest museum – the Mole Antonelliana.

Turin is also famous for its historic palaces which were once the official residences of Italy’s royalty. In fact, the residences of the Royal House of Savoy in Turin are collectively one of Italy’s UNESCO World Heritage sites. However, Turin’s history dates back much further. The city also has Roman ruins to discover. And the Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista is home to the famous Turin Shroud.

Turin

Novara

Novara is a fascinating city with a rich history and many interesting attractions. The city’s skyline is crowned by the towering dome of the Basilica of San Gaudenzio and the neo-classical Novara Cathedral. Ideal for a luxury villa holiday if you’re looking for a mix of culture, history, and natural beauty.

Alessandria

Alessandria is a military city with a unique past. The city is dominated by the vast, star-shaped Cittadella di Alessandria, one of Europe’s largest and best-preserved 18th-century fortifications. A luxury villa holiday near Alessandria combines quiet, off-the-beaten-path countryside relaxation with easy access to elegant palaces, historic military architecture, and the gentle rolling hills of southern Monferrato.

Asti

Famous worldwide for its sparkling wines and rich viticulture, Asti is a perfect base for food and wine lovers on a luxury holiday in Piedmont. Beyond its vineyard-draped hillsides, the town has a vibrant cultural heart and hosts its own thrilling Palio bareback horse race each September, rivalling the famous spectacle of Siena.

Things to do on a luxury holiday in Piedmont

From white truffle hunting to alpine skiing and lake cruises, a luxury villa holiday in Piedmont is perfect for anyone looking for a bit of an active getaway. In the same breath, because of its stunning nature, it can also be a great place for those looking for a bit of peace and quiet, away from the city:

Visit world-class ski resorts

In the winter, there are plenty of ski resorts in Piedmont, suitable for both novices and the most experienced skiers. For perspective, many of the 2006 Winter Olympic events were held in the Via Lattea resort in Piedmont.

With a Via Lattea ski pass, skiers can enjoy around 400 km of runs across seven different resorts. And of course, these same resorts offer a multitude of outdoor activities in the warmer months too. Hikers will certainly love exploring Piedmont’s mountains and valleys.

Explore the mountains and valleys

Where there are mountains, there are valleys, and Piedmont boasts plenty of them. The valleys of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato are a food and wine lovers’ dream. This is the area of Piedmont famed for its white truffles, its sweet hazelnuts and chocolate production.

Bra in Piedmont is home to the Slow Food Movement, while Alba hosts the International White Truffle Festival every October and November.

Wash it all down with some wine

Piedmont is also famous for its wines. Barolo is the most famous red wine produced in Piedmont, but Barbaresco and other Nebbiolo wines are also made. Famous whites include Gavi, Arneis and the sparkling Asti. Here, charming hilltop towns and castles are dotted between row upon row of vines and hazelnut trees.

Take a trip to the lake

Proof of Piedmont’s diverse landscape is the fact that the region is also home to most of Lake Maggiore. In fact, Lake Maggiore’s main town, Stresa, falls within Piedmont. This is the perfect base for any luxury holiday to Italy. The neighbouring Lake Orta also falls exclusively in Piedmont. Quieter than Lake Maggiore, its main town, Orta San Giulio, is incredibly picturesque. Catch a boat from here for the short journey to the tiny island, Isola San Giulio.

When to visit Piedmont for a luxury holiday

Due to its location at the foot of the Alps, Piedmont can be as popular in the winter months as in the summer. Here’s what you can expect during your luxury villa holiday in Piedmont, year-round:

  • Spring (April to June): A beautiful time for active holidays. Temperatures are crisp and pleasant for hiking, sightseeing in Turin, and exploring blooming lake gardens on Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta.
  • Summer (July and August): Ideal for combining city sightseeing with lazy summer days by a private pool or enjoying water sports along the lakes. Alpine resorts also offer cooler mountain breezes away from peak summer heat.
  • Autumn (September to November): The most prestigious time for food and wine lovers. Autumn brings the grape harvest, vibrant autumn colours across the Langhe hills, and the world-renowned White Truffle Festival in Alba.
  • Winter (December to March): Winter turns Piedmont into an alpine paradise for skiers and snowboarders heading to Via Lattea. Cities like Turin sparkle with festive light displays and cosy historic chocolate shops.

Frequently asked questions about booking a luxury holiday villa in Piedmont

How do I reach Piedmont, and which airport should I fly into?

Piedmont’s main airport is Turin-Caselle Airport, sitting in the heart of the region just 10 km from Turin. However, depending on your luxury villa’s location, it may be more convenient to fly to Milan Malpensa. This would certainly be the case if you’re holidaying on either Lake Maggiore or Lake Orta. And if you’re exploring the Langhe wine area in southern Piedmont, Genoa Airport is another option.

Are luxury villas in Piedmont suitable for winter stays?

Definitely. Whilst you will find Piedmont quiet in the Winter months, there are plenty of reasons to visit Piedmont in the winter. In December, you will find festive markets in many towns and villages, including Asti, Govone and Turin. Visitors can also make the most of the winter slopes for skiing and snow sports. And some of Piedmont’s best dishes are best served in the winter – warm drinks like bicerin and hearty dishes including meat broths, polenta and fondues.

Do I need a car for a luxury villa holiday in Piedmont?

In most cases, we recommend hiring a car. Certainly, if you want to explore Piedmont’s rural wine region, a car is essential. The only exceptions would be if you are heading to Turin or to Piedmont’s lake destinations. At both Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta, our luxury villas are often within easy reach of public transport, allowing you to explore the lake by train, bus, and boat.
