Not everyone can get the time off work to enjoy a week in Italy (or more!) but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy an Italy mini break. Italy mini breaks are great ways to discover some of the best Italian towns and cities, as well as some of the best of the country’s rich rural tapestry too. There are some obvious destinations to choose from – Florence, Rome and Venice for example. But there are so many more Italian places to try on an Italy mini break. That said, it’s not always easy to find accommodation for a short stay. Many self catering villas and apartments in Italy can have minimum stay requirements, particularly in the peak Summer months. But don’t despair, we have some great options for those looking to spend just two or three nights in Italy.
Italy mini break in Umbria
If you’re looking for an Italy mini break without the crowds, then Orvieto ticks all the boxes. Orvieto is one of Italy’s most beautiful but lesser known cities. Situated in the heart of Umbria, it is one of those places where you could lose yourself for hours. Enjoy exploring its quaint streets and admiring the incredible art and architecture that it is home to.
Its magnificent 14th century Duomo is arguably its famous sight. But we love a couple of lesser known attractions in Orvieto. These include the Grotta della Rupe, an extraordinary series of caves, cellars, aqueducts, quarries and tunnels that visitors can enjoy a tour of. And visitors should also make sure a visit to Orvieto also includes a trip underground to marvel at two spectacular underground wells – the Pozzo della Cava and Pozzo di San Patrizio. Also not to be missed in Orvieto is the Torre del Moro, its other churches and its wide selection of museums and palaces.
In short, there is plenty to keep visitors busy in Orvieto for more than a few days. And if you want a change in scene, you can always use Orvieto as a base to discover other Umbrian towns or to visit the beautiful countryside in between.
Villa Arrigo is a stunning 1 bedroom apartment in Orvieto. Just a short stroll from the Duomo, this is the perfect base from which to discover everything that Orvieto has to offer. Or for larger groups we have Villa Orvieto, a 2 bedroom Orvieto apartment that can sleep up to 4 guests comfortably. Guests are welcome to book stays of 2 nights or more at either of these Umbria apartments.
Both these Orvieto apartments offer all the benefits of a self catering property. These include privacy and space. At the same time, they also boast all the benefits that a hotel can offer. For example, guests enjoy a complimentary daily breakfast, turn down service and a host of extra amenities. These include a fully equipped communal gym, outdoor jacuzzi and sauna. A concierge service is also provided free of charge. And, whilst you have all the benefits of being in the heart of the city, you still have a fantastic garden to relax in along with a roof terrace. We think the terrace is the perfect to enjoy an apertif before heading out to dinner at one of Orvieto’s many restaurants.
Italy mini break in Tuscany
If you’re looking for stereotypical Italy, then a mini break in Tuscany should be top of your list. Of course, you can always opt for the more obvious choices in Tuscany. For us, this would be a city break in one of Tuscany’s principal cities – Florence, Pisa or even Siena. However, another option we prefer is to enjoy a more relaxed pace and enjoy an Italy mini break in Tuscany’s idyllic rural countryside.
Villa Paolo is a fantastic 2 bedroom villa near Cortona. It’s nestled in the beautiful countryside less than a 30 minute drive from Cortona. If you want to sightsee, then the location is ideal. After all, it’s just 15 minutes from the main Italian north – south highway, meaning Tuscany’s towns and cities are easy to reach. But, rest assured, you’ll feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle at Villa Paolo. Think peace, tranquility and total relaxation. Whether you’re relaxing with a drink in the brand new speakeasy style bar, chilling poolside, or sitting back with a drink on your private terrace, Villa Paolo is the perfect place to switch off and unwind from the stresses and strains of everyday life. In short, Villa Paolo offers you a slower pace of life on your Italy city break.
Italy mini break in the Italian Lakes
We love an Italy mini break in the Italian Lakes. For one thing, it’s super easy to get to. After all, when you don’t have much time in Italy, you don’t want to be wasting time en route. Fly to Milan and you can be on Lake Maggiore in as little as 40 minutes. And when you’re there, there is so much to see and do. You could spend one day visiting the Borromean islands, another enjoying a boat tour and a third exploring the idyllic lakeside towns and villages. We can pretty much guarantee that you’ll not want to head home after your Italy mini break in the Italian Lakes! But, that said, being left wanting for more is never a bad thing in our books when it comes to travel!
If you can be flexible on dates, many of the Bookings For You villas and apartments in the Italian Lakes are available for short stays even in the peak Summer months. Apartment Manzoni is a prime example.
Italy mini break in Sicily
If you’re after an Italy mini break that delivers on sunshine, then Sicily is a great place to look! But Sicily has lots more going for it than just the weather forecast. Sicily is an island rich in culture. Of course, if you want to simply soak up the sun’s rays, there are a wealth of wonderful beaches to enjoy. But the island can also boast an incredible seven UNESCO World Heritage sites, including two natural sites – Mount Etna and the Aeolian Islands. What is more, the towns and villages of SicilyĀ hold an array of exciting things to see and do. And, whilst the whole of Italy is renowned for its food, arguably nowhere is this more true than in Sicily.
Villa Topaz is a luxury 4 bedroom Sicily villa with no minimum stay even in the height of the Summer. So if you just want to jet off for a couple of days of sunshine to help get you through work the next week, this is well worth a look! And, once there, you don’t need to go far to find entertainment. Within the resort, you’ll find a golf course, tennis and padel sports activities. Not to mention the beach, the restaurants and bars. And, of course, your own private swimming pool (as well as the resort pool). This is a great option for an Italy mini break with children too. They’ll definitely give the thumbs up to the kids club within the resort.
Italy mini break in Emilia Romagna
If you’re after an Italy mini break as part of a larger group, then Emilia Romagna could be a great option. The region is famous for a number of things. First and foremost, it is synonymous with food making Emilia Romagna the perfect Italy mini break for foodies. Proscuitto di Parma, Balsamic Vinegar di Modena and Parmigiana Reggiano cheese all come from Emilia Romagna. But not only that. The region is also home to some of the world’s most prestigious car brands. These include Maserati, Ferrari and Lamborghini. And, as you’d expect from Italy, it’s also incredibly beautiful too.
Bookings For You have a selection of incredible Emilia Romagna villas which can be rented for short stays. These include Villa Tamba, a 5 bedroom villa in the heart of rural Emilia Romagna but still just a 30 minute drive from the historic centre of Bologna. And our villa collection also includes Villa Pergola, a stunning 4 bedroom Emilia Romagna villa with private pool and not just one but two private jacuzzis! If you’ve only got a short amount of time to spend in Italy, one of the last things you may want to be doing is shopping for groceries. But here, you won’t have to. Guests are welcome to opt to enjoy breakfast at the resort or to have dinner in one of the three on site restaurants for an additional charge.
