With a name like the ‘Green Heart of Italy’ you’d probably expect Umbria to be filled with golf course after golf course. However, there are, in fact, surprisingly few courses in Umbria for the golf lover to enjoy. However, that said, the courses that do exist are superb, with wonderful scenery to enjoy as you take that perfect put.
The first worth mentioning is the Antognolla Golf Course. (www.antognollagolf.com). Here, the championship 18 hole course is dominated by the medieval castle of Antognolla & golfers can enjoy incredible far-reaching views of the Umbrian countryside. Along with the 18 hole course, there is an excellent practice green here with open & covered bays, 2 chipping greens & practice putting green. There are also 3 separate par 3 holes. If not everyone in your group fancies a round of golf, the new swimming pool complex, with separate pools for children and hydromassage is also at the disposal of visitors.
You might also want to try a round at the Golf Club Lamborghini, not that far from the Southern shores of Lake Trasimeno. (www.lamborghinionline.it) Designed by Ferruccio Lamborghini, it is a 9 hole course, perfect for those looking for a shorter round of golf, as well as a driving range and pitching greens.
And of course, there is a course near Umbria’s capital city – Perugia. The Perugia Golf Club (www.golfclubperugia.it) is a par 72, 18 hole course, with pitching and putting greens and practice bunker. If you have some younger family members who’d like to try their hand at the game for the first time, then the club can provide lessons for children aged 6 years and upwards.
Depending on where you are staying in Umbria, you may also want to take a short drive across the border into Tuscany, where there are plenty of other courses on offer for you to enjoy. Click here more information about the Tuscany golf courses.
