However, if you are looking for total privacy this is not the type of villa you should book. The “”resort”” is a medieval village that has been restored into 12 villas and a manor house with 9 B&B bedrooms. This did mean that the pool could get busy and there was often a real mix of people at the pool, from younger couples and older couples who often made us feel uncomfortable making any kind of noise, to a few big families with teenagers playing rough in the pool. Also the pool was extremely cold and our boys could not play in it any longer that 15 minutes without having to get out and warm up in a towel.\nThe on site staff were very helpful, spoke excellent English, and I would recommend the wine tasting on offer, they also introduce you to some local cheeses and cold cuts. However the check in was very rushed and I did not feel we had a good enough introduction to our villa, meaning we missed some key points of the villa, e.g. The bunk beds are very high, 6 foot for the top and the floor is a hard terracotta stone, so we spent the first 10 days religiously placing the sofa cushions on the bedroom floor in case our son fell out, on our 11th day I found a bar that went across the top bunk making it safe. The staff simply opened the door and showed us the kitchen and then left.\nThe villa itself was of a high standard with a fantastic living/dining room, and a kitchen leading directly out to our semi private outside eating area. I did manage it see inside many of the other villas, as the staff let me see during their switch over cleans, and felt the other villas had smaller darker living rooms. The living room had fabulous bi folding doors out onto another garden shared by several other villas, the views and sun sets from this garden were spectacular. We felt that this villa was the best for our needs a good sized master bedroom with great bathroom, and our sons shared a set if bunk beds and had this own en suite also. We also has a handy third bathroom by the main entrance. Lots of wardrobe space, and hangars. The kitchen was well arranged and I was delighted with the array of dishes, glasses and cutlery, the dishwasher and washing machine came with powder for both, and the coffee maker had filters available too. The weren’t many down sides to this villa, but some visitors may have found them intolerable. The main living space was single story with huge vaulted ceilings, but the bedrooms had another villa above them, during our first week we had a rather large and noisy french family upstairs who woke us up most mornings at around 7 am with kids running around and moving furniture. Also disappointing was the TV had no DVD player and only one English Channel, even though they advertised that they had sat TV, often after a busy day we like the kids to wind down with a movie, but we played some games instead. Our outside dinning area was quite private, but not totally, and we could not enjoy the beautiful sun sets from this side, but breakfast was delightful, I would suggest that the management trim back the hedge by our fence as our view over the other hill and valley was somewhat obscured. \nWe found the location excellent, 5 minute drive into the lovely village of Castellina with some great restaraunts and 2 fabulous ice cream shops, one in the tunnels and our favourite on the main road. We visited Sienna, San Gimignano, Greve, and Radda from here all easy distances and made for some delightful days out. At the bottom of the drive way of the Borgo Pietrafitta is the restaraunt Nv.ari which I will do a separate review on, but suffice to say we had several excellent meals here, and it was great to be able to walk to it, as every other trip needed a car.\nAll in all a lovely family holiday, we’ve never done a villa holiday before in a “resort” and not sure we will again, but I would recommend this particular villa to families as long as they are fully prepared for the fact that this is not private.
