Florence is a city that needs no introduction. Arguably Italy’s most romantic city, it’s the capital of the province of Florence as well as the capital city of the Tuscany region. The home of the Italian Renaissance, its palaces, galleries, churches, parks and back streets span the River Arno. The Uffizi Gallery, Palazzo Pitti, Galleria dell’ Accademia, Ponte Vecchio and Duomo are just a few of the city’s most famous landmarks. Certainly, art lovers will fall in love with the abundance of art and architecture on display. And fashion lovers will be equally content – Florence is comfortably ranked in the top 15 fashion capitals of the world.
All these Florence villas are situated within the province of Florence rather than being in the centre of the city. If you are looking for a Florence apartment in the heart of the city, then take a look at our Florence apartments instead.
The Florence region is one of Tuscany’s 10 provinces. Of course, it is home to Tuscany’s capital city, Florence, but there is much more to the region than its principal city.
Of course, a stay in this Tuscan province would not be complete without a visit to the city of Florence. There is so much to see and do here. Start your visit in the Piazza del Duomo, home to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore as well as Giotto’s Campanile and the Baptistry. Then explore some of the many museums, galleries and other churches that the city is home to. Alternatively, opt for a bit of retail therapy, either in one of the many markets in Florence or along the Ponte Vecchio, home to a number of jewellery businesses. Or if the weather is nice, it’s worth taking a walk in one of the parks and gardens in Florence. The Boboli Gardens, the Giardino delle Rose and the Giardino Bardini are our favourites. Check out our Florence travel guide and our guide to spending 48 hours in Florence for more ideas on what to see and do.
As well as Florence, the province is also home to a number of other cities and towns including Empoli, Certaldo, Fiesole, Greve, Rufina, San Casciano in Val di Pesa, Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, Mugello, Reggello and Scandicci.
There is no bad time to visit Florence. That said, if you’re after heat, then opt for the peak Summer months. Average temperatures in July and August are 25 degrees but they can frequently exceed 30 across July and August. This is the perfect time to combine time spent poolside at your Tuscany villa with sightseeing.
Alternatively you could visit the Florence region in the Spring or Autumn. Sightseeing is definitely a lot more pleasant when it’s that bit cooler. Plus you’ll be able to explore without all the crowds. But you’ll still be able to relax by the pool too and enjoy plenty of warm sunshine.
